Stephen Mihm Awarded the BHC's Williamson Prize

Stephen Mihm of the University of Georgia was presented with the Harold F. Williamson Prize of the Business History Conference at the organization's annual meeting, held in Frankfurt, Germany. The prize honors a mid-career scholar for contributions to the teaching and writing of business history. Mihm, who is an associate professor of history at the University of Georgia, is a member of the BHC Board of Trustees and an editorial board member for Enterprise & Society. His publications include A Nation of Counterfeiters: Capitalists, Con Men, and the Making of the United States (Harvard University Press, 2007) and, with Nouriel Roubini, Crisis Economics: A Crash Course in the Future of Finance (Penguin Press, 2010). He also founded and edited the Echoes blog on Bloomberg View, the opinion and editorial division of Bloomberg Media, which discussed current events in the light of business history (2011-2013). He tweets at @SMihm and still occasionally writes for Bloomberg and other media outlets. In 2012 he was the recipient of the University of Georgia History Department's Parks-Heggoy Award for excellence in graduate student teaching.

Digital Collection: Princeton Exhibit of Subway Posters

The Princeton University Library has digitized a number of posters from the Interborough Rapid Transit Subway Company . The posters, designed by the public relations firm Ivy Lee, were displayed in subway cars to provide information to riders about changes in fares and routes, safety issues, and other matters of interest. The collection consists of 385 images dating from 1918 to 1932; many of them provide financial information about rates, company dividends, and a general look at an early rapid transit system. October 29, update: Jonathan Rees over at "More or Less Bunk" was moved by this post to go off in search of a better site, and found the massive collection of the London Transport Museum , which displays over 5,000 items in a searchable collection .

Wilfried Feldenkirchen (1947-2010)

With sadness we report the death of longtime BHC member Wilfried Feldenkirchen. He died in a car accident on June 21, 2010, while test driving a replica of Siemens' 1905 electric car, the Victoria , a project for which he was the manager. He was professor of economic, social, and business history in the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. A former trustee of the BHC and a member of the editorial board of Enterprise & Society , Professor Dr. Feldenkirchen specialized in nineteenth- and twentieth-century corporate and financial history, focusing particularly on Siemens.
