The Society for the History of Technology (SHOT) will hold its annual meeting on October 10-13, 2013, in Portland, Maine. The Program Committee invites paper and session proposals on any topic in the history of technology, broadly defined. The Committee welcomes proposals for individual papers or sessions from researchers at all levels (including graduate students, chaired professors, and independent
scholars). It welcomes proposals from those new to SHOT, regardless of discipline, as well as those familiar with the field. Applicants are encouraged to propose sessions that include a diverse mix of participants: multinational origins, a mix of men and women, a balance of professional ranks (that is, mixing graduate students and junior scholars with senior scholars), and so forth. Strong preference will be given to panels whose presenters have diverse institutional affiliations.
For the 2013 meeting the Program Committee continues to welcome unconventional sessions--that is, session formats that diverge in useful ways from the typical three/four papers with comment. These might include round-table sessions, workshop-style sessions with papers that are pre-circulated electronically, or "author meets critics" sessions. Proposals for presentation in poster sessions are also welcomed.
The deadline for proposals is March 31, 2013. For submission instructions and other details, please see the SHOT meeting website.
