Three internships at Hagley: review of applications starts April 1st, 2019

1. Processing Internship (paid, $15/hour; 320 hours) for the Hagley Library’s Department of Audiovisual Collections and Digital Initiatives (AVD). Learn about conservation, arrangement, and description of an archival collection(s) under the supervision of the Audiovisual and Digital Archivist in the Audiovisual Collections and Digital Initiatives Department. 2. Paid Internship (paid, $15/hour; 320 hours) for The Hagley Museum and Library’s Manuscripts and Archives Department (M&A) to assist with the processing of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) records. NAM is the largest manufacturing trade association in the United States and its records are essential for understanding the relationship between business and government in the twentieth century. Once completed, this project will add an additional 880 linear feet of manuscript, audiovisual, and published materials to Hagley’s already extensive NAM collections. 3. Processing Internship for the DuPont Company's Lavoisier Library at Hagley (paid, $15/hour; 320 hours). The library has produced a box inventory on Excel that details the holdings within 57 total cartons. The next stage of this project involves the intern using that inventory to physically organize and rearrange the publications into intelligible order. The inventory would also need to be kept current, tracking the reorganization effort. Then decisions can be made to prioritize cataloging, based on input and recommendations of the intern. With time permitting, the intern can then learn our cataloging process, establishing greater intellectual control through online records, and employing best practices for long-term archival storage. Digital Collection: Princeton Exhibit of Subway Posters

The Princeton University Library has digitized a number of posters from the Interborough Rapid Transit Subway Company . The posters, designed by the public relations firm Ivy Lee, were displayed in subway cars to provide information to riders about changes in fares and routes, safety issues, and other matters of interest. The collection consists of 385 images dating from 1918 to 1932; many of them provide financial information about rates, company dividends, and a general look at an early rapid transit system. October 29, update: Jonathan Rees over at "More or Less Bunk" was moved by this post to go off in search of a better site, and found the massive collection of the London Transport Museum , which displays over 5,000 items in a searchable collection .

Wilfried Feldenkirchen (1947-2010)

With sadness we report the death of longtime BHC member Wilfried Feldenkirchen. He died in a car accident on June 21, 2010, while test driving a replica of Siemens' 1905 electric car, the Victoria , a project for which he was the manager. He was professor of economic, social, and business history in the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. A former trustee of the BHC and a member of the editorial board of Enterprise & Society , Professor Dr. Feldenkirchen specialized in nineteenth- and twentieth-century corporate and financial history, focusing particularly on Siemens.
